Rationale
- The UK Pleural Society is dedicated to the better treatment and understanding of pleural disease
- It is difficult to obtain small “seed” or “starter” grants in pleural research, which often needs to compete with larger and more established areas of both respiratory and other disease.
Principles
- The grant is open to proposals for any form of research (basic science, translational, clinical, quantitative and qualitative) which is specifically related to pleural disease.
- The grant is specifically not open to fund what would be regarded as “normal clinical services” (for example, replacement of equipment, clinical staff salary etc).
- Grants will be judged solely on scientific merit – however, assuming reasonable scientific quality, an effort will be made by the committee to ensure both centres experienced in pleural research and those less so are provided with the opportunity to be funded
